Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most common questions about our backyard barbecue culture and the cookouts we host for a cause.

What is the best wood for backyard grilling?

The best wood is one that complements your meat. Hickory gives a bold, smoky flavor, while apple wood provides a sweeter, milder note. Always use seasoned wood and keep a small amount of kindling ready to keep the fire alive.

How do I properly season my meat?

Seasoning is all about time and patience. Generously apply your favorite rubs and let it sit for at least 4 hours, or overnight in the fridge. This allows the salt to penetrate the meat and the flavors to meld together.

What is the ideal temperature for grilling?

For most backyard grilling, aim for a temperature between 225°F and 250°F. This low and slow method allows the meat to cook evenly and absorb the smoke, resulting in a tender, flavorful result.

How can I keep my grill clean?

Keep your grill clean by using a grill brush after every cookout. For a deep clean, remove the grates and soak them in warm water with a small amount of dish soap. This removes the buildup of grease and food particles.

What is the purpose of the Cookout for a Cause?

Our cookouts are a way to bring people together for something bigger than just food. We host these events to support the Invisible Wounds Project, helping veterans and their families through community service and shared stories.
